Intensive and Intermediate Care Units
Medical Center of South Arkansas offers an eight bed Intensive Care Unit. Continuous
monitoring of the patient's condition is accomplished by advanced equipment designed
to closely observe a patient's vital signs while allowing a restful recovery.
Intensive care nurses specially trained in critical care skills, arrhythmia
interpretation, hemodynamic monitoring, and advanced adult and pediatric life
support techniques are available 24 hours a day. They are also trained to anticipate
the needs of patients and to help calm any fears or anxieties. Physicians and nurses
maintain close contact with each other and the patient's immediate family to address
special needs and answer questions. In addition, other healthcare professionals are
readily available to collaborate with the physician and nurses to meet each
patient's individual needs.
The Med Center also offers an eight bed intermediate care unit. In this area
patients are monitored by portable heart monitors. This allows patients to become
more active as their healing process continues. Families are also encouraged to
actively participate in the patient's care through an expanded visiting time.
