1/13/2022
El Dorado, AR – Angela Roberson, a registered nurse at Medical Center of South Arkansas for 10 years, has received a national 2021 Nursing Excellence Award.
Roberson is one of ten national winners selected across all hospitals affiliated with Community Health Systems, one of the leading operators of general acute-care hospitals and outpatient care centers in communities across the United States. The organization’s affiliates include Medical Center of South Arkansas and 82 other hospitals in 16 states.
Roberson was surprised with the recognition during a Medical Center of South Arkansas meeting with hospital leadership and staff where she was presented with a crystal plaque, a cash award, a cake, and other congratulatory gifts.
Dwayne Blaylock, interim CEO at Medical Center of South Arkansas, stated that “Angela is wonderfully compassionate and caring, and she is continually working to help the community. She is representative of the caring people working at Medical Center of South Arkansas.”
The Nursing Excellence Award was created to honor the critical role nurses have played in treating patients throughout the pandemic. The peer-nominated award program was open to qualifying RNs and LPNs working in a direct patient care position who consistently demonstrate characteristics synonymous with nursing excellence. These characteristics include outstanding care, compassion, service and innovation, and reflect the efforts of someone who is a demonstrated team player and/or mentor to others, is a leader in times of crises, and who regularly promotes health in the community.
Roberson was recognized for her efforts to raise awareness about COVID-19 and promote vaccination. In the last year, she helped organize more than 20 community vaccination clinics throughout El Dorado and the surrounding area, which resulted in more than 2500 people vaccinated. A long-time community volunteer and health education advocate, Roberson has championed many causes including, breast cancer awareness, support for families who have children with special needs and the Boys and Girls Club. She first joined Medical Center of South Arkansas in 2011 as a nurse auditor and now works in a community outreach role.
In addition to receiving the Nursing Excellence Award itself, Roberson received a copy of “Shining the Light on All the Right” by Mark and Bonnie Barnes, co-founders of The DAISY Foundation, an international movement created to recognize and express gratitude for extraordinary nursing.
