Emergencies can happen at any time. That’s why it’s important to be prepared and know where to go when you need medical care - fast. The emergency medicine team at Medical Center of South Arkansas provides care to patients in El Dorado, Arkansas, and surrounding areas when they need it most.
Our highly trained staff can provide care for everything from cuts and broken bones to life-threatening conditions such as heart attack or stroke. We provide efficient, prompt and compassionate care.
Medical Center of South Arkansas is designated by the Arkansas Department of Health as a Level III Trauma Center. As a trauma center, Medical Center of South Arkansas provides prompt assessment, resuscitation and stabilization of trauma patients suffering from major traumatic injuries such as falls, motor vehicle collisions, gunshot wounds, etc. Our emergency room nurses are certified in Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN). We have 24/7 general surgery and orthopedics coverage and a 16 bed intensive care unit with a helipad on site for transferring patients in need of higher levels of care to other hospitals. Through our alliance with Survival Flight, beginning February 2020, Medical Center of South Arkansas will have an onsite helicopter and crew based on the hospital’s campus.
Medical Center of South Arkansas works together with UAMS Stroke Assistance through Virtual Emergency Support (ARSAVES) telemedicine stroke program. This program delivers live, telemedicine-based neurology consultation in emergency departments by connecting potential stroke patients with specialists who offer on-the-spot stroke diagnosis and treatment. Any patient that is suspected of having a stroke is given a telemedicine consult with a neurologist and a stroke assessment is completed. Our nurses are trained in the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale. Spot a stroke F.A.S.T. FAST is an acronym used as a mnemonic to help detect and enhance responsiveness to the needs of a person having a stroke. The acronym stands for Facial drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulties and Time to call emergency services.
